Two ways to reach the same math — see it, and build it.

Magic Line is a math teaching tool that pairs a guided on-screen step-by-step with a hands-on build. Different learners get different ways into the same concepts — and every student leaves with a finished kit to keep.

What this actually is

Most math instruction presents a rule, asks students to practice it, then tests it — symbol first, meaning second. For students who reason visually or with their hands, that order works against them. Magic Line reverses it: students do the math actively — exploring an idea and watching it build up — before it's formally named, and then they build a figure that makes the idea physical.

It's a real math lesson, a hands-on project, and a finished kit to take home at once — several objectives met by a single activity.

The sequence

The same shape, applied to every session — organized around how the student moves:

  1. Explore — meet an idea on screen and get curious about it before it's named.
  2. Step through the algorithm — one step at a time, at your own pace, watching it build up.
  3. Build by hand — construct the figure on a board with thread, applying the idea physically.
  4. Explain — say, in your own words, what you made and why it came out the way it did.

The claim is narrow and testable: a student who has built an idea by hand, and can explain why a change produced a different result, understands it more durably than one who was only told.

What a student walks away able to do

  • Follow and reproduce a step-by-step procedure, on screen and then by hand.
  • Predict how changing something will change the result — before testing it.
  • Reason about coordinates, angles, and factor relationships in a spatial, physical context.
  • Explain, in their own words, why a specific change produced a specific result.
  • Complete a self-directed project that is, at the same time, real mathematics.
