Anna Grim

Anna Grim is a Ukrainian string artist based in the United States, working in a medium she has made entirely her own: straight lines and thread. For more than a decade she has built geometric compositions by hand — mandalas, sacred-geometry forms, and flowing curves conjured from thousands of individual threads, each one placed one at a time.

Her signature work is spun in metallic thread against dark grounds, where light catches the surface and the piece seems to shift as you move around it. Anna describes the process as meditative: slow, exacting, and quiet — a practice in which patience and precision give rise to beauty, and strict geometry softens into something organic, almost alive. She is drawn to the mandala and to sacred geometry because, across many cultures, those forms carry the same intuition she keeps returning to: that structure and feeling are not opposites, but the same thing seen from two sides.

Born Anna Pankova, she began sharing her craft early — leading in-person string-art workshops in Ukraine and, since 2016, designing string-art kits that let people around the world build a piece of their own at home. Those kits are still sold today. In 2025, her work was recognized at art festivals in Rochester, New York, taking first and third place.

Today Anna creates under the Magic Line name, where her art, her designs, and her kits come together in one place. Alongside new collections, she is beginning a new chapter: a hands-on STEAM education program that carries her craft into classrooms, libraries, and homeschool settings — so the making she has spent a decade refining can be shared with learners of any age.

A single straight line is the simplest thing there is. Repeated by hand, thousands of times, it becomes a curve — and that quiet transformation is the whole of Anna's work.
